2018 Washington County Fair Communications Night Information

The Washington County 4-H Communications Night was held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the Washington County Fairgrounds.  39 4-H’ers gave educational presentations and five participated in the extemporaneous speaking division. 4-H prides itself on developing good communicators.  This is one activity to build those skills.

Limecreek Limelights 4-Her Callie Huber was awarded State Fair Honors with her presentation on Antibiotic Use in Hogs.  Bynn Younge of the Limecreek Limelights presentation on the Iowa State Fair and Logan McClellen of the Limecreek Livewires with his presentation on Chickens will both  present Washington County at the Iowa State Fair.   Maya Bruty of the Prairie Pride 4-H Club was awarded the Noon Kiwanis Judge’s Choice for her presentation titled “Girls on the Run”.    There were 16 juniors who presented in this category.

Intermediate 4-H members participating in educational presentations included: Payton Peck, Riley Hahn, Halle Hershberger, Braydon Younge, Carmen Sieren, Roy Carter, Annie Morrison, Zane Fisher, Grace Conway, Zoe Fisher, Logan McClellen, Alexa Huber.  Morrison with her presentation titled All About German Shepherds and Conway with her presentation on Newborn Lamb Care will both present again at the Iowa State Fair. Conway received top presenter honors.  Younge received the Noon Kiwanis Judges Choice with his presentation on Tractor History.

Senior 4-Hers with educational presentations included: Frankie Johnson, Kitty Conway, Brooke Stout, Leah Marek, Peyton Cuddeback, Brody Miller, Kamren Martin, David Hora, Eli Van Roekel.  Johnson’s presentation “The Bermuda Triangle” earned a top honors and the Judge’s Choice award from the Noon Kiwanis and was given to Kitty Conway on “Basic Car Maintenance for a Girl by a Girl”.

During the Extemporaneous Speaking contests participants draw a topic, have 30  minutes to write a 4-6 minute speech and then deliver it to an audience.  Participants included: David Hora of the Jackson Jets received Judges Choice with selection for State Fair.  Katie Palmer of the Limecreek Limelights will also represent Washington County in Des Moines in August.
