The Washington Demon baseball team fell in the first round of the playoffs to end their season last Saturday, capping off the team’s first 20+ win season since 2012.

The Demons finished the year at 21-12, which was highlighted by a sweep of a ranking-fringe Mediapolis team, over 100 stolen bases as a team, and a win in a Major League ballpark.  Only three players on the team had gotten any sort of extensive playing time at the start of the season, but some stars shone through.

Cade Hennigan saw just two at-bats in his sophomore season, but came back this year to win the Southeast Conference Player of the Year Award.  Luke Turner improved tenfold, driving in a team-high 39 runs and finishing with a whopping .469 batting average.  They welcomed a new varsity player into the fold in freshman Wilx Witthoft, who hit three homers and drove in 24.  The list goes on.

The Demons graduate four seniors in Jacob Hall, Landon Hinkley, Kiowa Keith and Erik Murphy.  Head coach Nathan Miller says this group of four guys was perhaps the best senior class he’s ever coached.

Aside from those four, Washington will return five everyday position players and their top two pitchers next year.
