A Riverside woman has been sentenced to up to 50 years in prison for child endangerment resulting in the death of her 17-month-old daughter.

At Friday’s sentencing 30-year-old Ambrashia Marie Chrzan was given the state mandated sentence for her conviction, a class B felony, for the November 2016 death of Avery McCoy. Chrzan is also ordered to pay her share of $150,000 for victim restitution to Avery’s heirs, yet to be determined.

Chrzan gave a statement during the hearing, “I want to express to you the remorse I feel for missing the appointment. I miss Avery very much; she was everyone’s princess. I miss her more than you can put into words. This is all resulting in me losing all of my children, when they are all that matter to me the most. I’m not the evil person that the media has made me out to be, but what I really want you to know is that I would never intentionally hurt my child, Avery McCoy, or any of my children.”

A jury trial found Chrzan guilty of not giving Avery enough food and appropriate health care which significantly contributed to her death. Prior to sentencing, the defendant asked Judge Myron Gookin for another trial to which she was denied. Chrzan will serve her sentence at the Iowa Correctional Facility for Women in Mitchellville. Avery’s father, 37-year-old Anthony McCoy pled guilty to child endangerment in Avery’s death in May and his sentencing is scheduled for August 3rd at 11 a.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.
