If you’re an aspiring baker, craft maker, or have a sharp mind for economics you could make a profit at Chief Wapello Days this weekend.

A new addition to this year’s festival is a youth entrepreneur sale. Those who are 16 and younger are welcome to set up a stand and sell their products at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with an adult present. Wapello Community Club member Katie Hammond says the idea came from a local parent, “I think it’s a great learning opportunity for the kids. I know my own daughter is going to be selling some bracelets there, and she’s really done a good job of thinking through things and how much stuff costs and how much she’s going to have to sell in order to break even or make a profit and so I’m really excited about it.”

There is new free entertainment this year with a puppet show by the Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre from West Liberty, which was made possible in part by a grant from the State Historical Society of Iowa. The puppet show takes place from 1:45-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wapello High School gym followed by an intermission bake sale and quilt raffle, and then a family magic show from 3-4:20 p.m. featuring Keith West and the Illusioneers. Both free shows were also made possible with a grant from the Community Foundation of Louisa County. The Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from Chief Wapello Days from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday as part of the KCII Summer Town Tour. For a full schedule of events click here.
