The Washington Demon softball team ended their regular season with a bang Tuesday, beating Fort Madison in a double-header by a combined score of 27-0.

The Demons set the tone early in game one, scoring two runs in the first inning and striking for three more in the second to get out to a quick 5-0 lead.  They extended that lead by a run in the fourth, and a massive eight-run sixth put the nail in the coffin for the Bloodhounds in that one with a final score of 14-0 in six innings.

A slew of players helped lead the way offensively for Washington, with eight of the nine members of the lineup knocking in at least one run.  Molly Sparks got the win in the circle, throwing a complete game four-hit shutout and striking out four.

Game two was more of the same for the Demons, scoring a 13-0 victory in four innings.  Kellie Dallmeyer led the way at the plate, going 2-3 with a homer, four RBI and three runs scored.  Alexa Mitchell did the pitching, throwing four shutout innings on four hits while striking out four.

With the wins, the Demons finish the regular with a record of 16-21.  They’ll take to the postseason tonight on the road against Clear Creek Amana.  Molly Sparks will likely get the start in the circle tonight, and she says she knows what needs to be done from her standpoint.

“I think they’re a pretty good hitting team just looking at their stats,” Sparks said.  “They have some girls batting over .400, so I’m really going to have to hit my spots and really spin the ball that game.”

You can hear that postseason action on FM 106.1 KCII tonight from Oxford with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show starting at 6:30 and a 7:00 first pitch.
