Guatemalan immigrants in southeast Iowa have the opportunity to visit with representatives of the Guatemalan Consulate General this weekend.

Representatives of the consulate office of Chicago will be in Mount Pleasant Saturday and Sunday to provide services such as renewing passports and other documentation. Organizer David Suarez shares what makes this visit important, “Usually they came at least once a year but this occasion is really special because this visit is the first one in Mount Pleasant. And the reason for that is because as you know recently they experienced this ICE (Immigrations and Customs Enforcement) raid  in Mount Pleasant and 22 Guatemalan families were affected by the raid.”

All Guatemalan residents are welcome to visit with the consulate, besides those from Mount Pleasant. Consulate representatives will be at Iowa Wesleyan University’s J. Raymond Chadwick Library at 107 West Broad Street from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-noon Sunday.
