The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk baseball team opened up the playoffs Saturday with a win over Williamsburg 4-2 at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman.

In a game heard on AM and FM KCII, Mid-Prairie struck first with a single run in the first inning when Peyton Miller came home on a wild pitch. Williamsburg took the lead on a pair of runs in the third inning. Trailing 2-1, the Golden Hawks sprung back on top with two runs in the home half of the third as Brad Tornow and Collin Gingerich came in on RBI by Keaton Duwa and Eli Steckly. Mid-Prairie got another insurance run in the fifth inning to make it 4-2. That was enough for Tornow who came on in relief and got the final eight outs to record the save, striking out six in his outing. He was also one for one at the plate with a double. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 12-15 on the year, they will face No. 3 Iowa City Regina Tuesday in the class 2A district semifinals.
