The Lone Tree Lion baseball team took round one of the playoffs Tuesday, narrowly beating Iowa Valley by a 7-6 score.

The match-up between the Lions and Tigers (and bears, oh my…) was exciting, to say the least.  The Lions got out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Iowa Valley would answer with one of their own to tie it up.  The Tigers proceeded to score one more in the third, three more in the fourth, and another one in the sixth to take a 6-1 lead.  Then the magic happened.

It was looking like the season would end right there for Lone Tree, but they managed to pull off a complete six-run comeback in the top of the seventh to go up 7-6.  They would slam the door in the bottom half, taking the win and moving on to the second round.

Keegan Edwards led the way at the plate, going 4-5 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.  Dakota Smith was also productive when it counted most, slapping a two-RBI double in the seventh to help move the rally along and cap off a 1-3 night at the plate.

The Lions will certainly have their work cut out for them tonight when they take on Lisbon (also the Lions); the #2 team in class 1A, and the only remaining unbeaten team in the state across all classes.  That one is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
