Saturday is the fourth annual Rock ‘n’ Ride in southeast Iowa.

The event features activities all day long including a bike ride from the KC Hall in Washington to Railroad Park in Riverside and back to Washington, live music, a fun run, and the Rock ‘n’ Relax at 6p.m. Event organizer Dave Friese spoke with KCII news about how he got involved in the event and what it means to him “It began with a group of my friends that I convinced to help us get this going after my wife Kim passed from cancer. We wanted to make some money for research at the University of Iowa and help in fighting cancer. I asked some friends and Mike Van Osdol, who had lost his wife Karen, who was an inspirational person for Kim during her struggle and fight with cancer to help me. A group of us got it going and its blossomed into a really good event.”

This year’s theme is “Honoring those in the fight”. Proceeds from the event benefit the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. In its previous three years the event has raised more than $140,000. For more information, listen to Friday’s Halcyon House Washington Page program on KCII.
