A documentary about a local historian and some of the world’s oldest films will be traveling across the country this summer as it premieres in several new cities.

Between now and August 3rd the film Saving Brinton will be showing in Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Massachusetts and Washington state. The film recently showed in Scotland and England and is now officially qualified to be nominated for an Academy Award after completing two two-week runs in Los Angeles and New York.

The film’s focal point Michael Zahs recently said he’s seen Saving Brinton 83 times, but it’s the input from other viewers that keep the film new for him, “It’s always fun to have the question and answer afterwards and see what someone else gets from it and then that helps me look at it differently. And yes I’m very familiar with the film but it’s fun to see it as it goes through someone else’s perspective. And so many people like it because it is just so Iowa.”

Iowa connections are universal, as Zahs says he’s looking forward to a showing in Duluth on August 16th in which the Minnesota-based band The Pines will be performing. The Pines provided some music for Saving Brinton, and some of the band’s members are former students of Zahs.
