The Highland Husky softball team is well-represented in the All-Conference teams for the SEISC’s north division, getting seven players named in one way or another.

The Huskies have three first-teamers in juniors Abbie Miller and Aly Stokes and sophomore Emily Yahnke.  Three second-teamers represent Highland in juniors Kylie Wood, Sarah Schneider and Megan Hoenig, and an honorable mention went out to eighth-grader Kinzie Hora.

For the first-teamers’ parts, Stokes finished the season with a team-high .333 batting average while hitting .360 in conference play.  Yahnke hit .328 and led the team in stolen bases with 20 on 21 attempts, which was also good for third place in that stat throughout the conference.  Miller had a team-high 30 RBI, 10 of which came in a single game.  Stokes and Miller were both honorable mentions for the all-state softball team a season ago.

As for the members of the second team, Hoenig had another solid pitching season following an all-state honorable mention of her own last year, sporting a 12-9 record and 103 strikeouts (top five in the conference) with a 2.63 ERA.  Schneider was also an honorable mention all-stater last season, and she followed that with a .266 batting average and a team second-best 16 RBI.  Wood showed exceptional plate discipline throughout the year, taking 18 walks as opposed to striking out just five times.  Her 18 free passes were good for fourth in the conference in that statistic.

Hora played exceptional defense behind the plate in her first varsity season, ending up placing fifth in the conference in fielding percentage among players with a minimum of 35 chances to make a play by fielding 98.5 percent of of balls successfully.  She also finished with a .227 batting average and 7 stolen bases.

Highland finished their season with a 14-13 overall record, going 11-5 in conference play.  That’s a bit of a downgrade from last season’s 21-8 record, but they’ll look to improve on that next season with the vast majority of the roster coming back.  They graduate just two seniors in Murphy Beinhart and Brylee Carolan.
