The 46th annual RAGBRAI ride brought thousands of bicyclists to Sigourney on Thursday.

The city served as the overnight stop for the 6th day of the 2018 event after a 68.6 mile trek from Newton. Riders entered town on highway 92, turning south down Main Street. Sigourney was buzzing with not only bicyclists, but those who came out to watch them, camps for them to stay in throughout town, vendors and entertainment. The main stage on the southeast corner of the square hosted entertainment until 12:30 Friday morning, including the 34th Army Sidewinders Band, Standing Hampton and the Pork Tornadoes. At the Expo Grounds, crowds were treated to more musical acts including The Boys and Jake McVey. The KCII Big Red Radio was on scene broadcasting live from 2-4p.m. This is the third time that Sigourney has served as an overnight venue for the ride, previously hosting the event in 1975 and 1995. Riders will continue through the KCII listening area on Friday as day seven takes them from Sigourney to Iowa City, passing through Harper, Keota, Wellman, Kalona, Riverside and Hills. The KCII Big Red Radio will be broadcasting live from Kalona from 11a.m. to 1p.m. Friday as riders pass through.
