The City of Washington is moving forward with the East Washington Street sidewalk project.

The Washington City Council approved a preliminary resolution Tuesday to move forward with constructing a sidewalk of about 2500 lineal feet from the sidewalk’s current end to Walmart. A preliminary schedule was also presented to the council which states the council will adopt the plat, schedule, and estimate of cost on September 4th and publication of notice of hearing and letters will be sent to affected property owners on September 6th. Mayor Jaron Rosien commented on the project, “This is one area where we’ve had public comments that spoke to us about this and kind of upped the priority of getting it done. So while life is not perfect this is one illustration of people bringing this to our attention, asking it to become a priority, and here it sits in front of us which is nice.”

City Administrator Brent Hinson says this project is estimated to cost $180,000 and $20,000 will be paid by special assessment. Construction is expected to start April 1st, 2019 and be completed in 6-8 weeks. The deadline for owners to pay assessments without interest is August 13th, 2019.
