The Columbus Wildcat baseball team had their season end Saturday in the first round of the class 2A district tournament at Paul N. Bailey Field in Wellman against the Pekin Panthers 18-3.

Columbus took a brief 1-0 lead with a single run in the first, only to see the Panthers score eight times in the bottom half to take an 8-1 advantage. Columbus would respond with a pair in the second to pull back within 8-3 but from there Pekin scored 10 unanswered over the next three innings to end the game after four frames. Columbus finished with seven total hits, led by Chance Colby and his three for three night. Evan Rees drove in two. With the loss, Columbus wraps up their season at 3-17 with Caleb McCullough, Abel Mena, Tommy Pretz, Bryan Solis, Ryan Orr and Marshall Meade graduating.
