The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team saw their playoff run come to an end in the regional quarterfinal round of the class 1A postseason Tuesday.

The Wolves opened Monday with a 2-0 win over the Iowa Valley Tigers. The Wolves did their scoring in the third inning, pushing across two runs with a pair of RBI from Molly Miller. That was more than enough for Madie Anderson who threw the complete game, striking out 17 hitters en route to the victory.

In the quarterfinal round, WMU was upended by Lynnville-Sully 2-1. The Hawks scored single runs in the first and third innings against Anderson. The Wolves countered with a run in the fifth when Liana Sweezer drove in Dakota Haines to cut the Lynnville-Sully lead in half but Winfield-Mt. Union could not tie things up. Anderson took the loss in the circle going six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out eight. WMU ends their season with an 11-8 overall record and says goodbye to seniors Lauren Jamison, Dakota Haines and Maci Richardson.
