Wolves Look to Take Down Trojans

Posted: Friday, August 31st, 2018 at 7:00 am

The Winfield-Mt. Union football team enters Friday hungry for their first win of the season hosting Tri-County. WMU has been beaten by a combined 126-46 score through the first two weeks in dropping games at Springville 52-28 and at home to English Valleys 74-18. On the season for the Wolves, Daunte Oepping is seven of 26 through the air for 88 yards, a touchdown and an interception. His favorite target is Christian Gerot with four catches for 30 yards. On the ground Juanito Piper has 34 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown. Piper has piled up a team best 24.5 tackles through the first two weeks, while Oepping has picked off three passes to lead the WMU defense.

Tri-County had a bye through the first week of the regular season so tonight’s game in Winfield serves as their season opener. A year ago the Trojans were 2-8 in 8-man play, scoring wins over Seymour/Moulton-Udell 38-20 and Meskwaki Settlement 56-12.

The Trojans return their top quarterback from last year in Tegon Fogle who went 24 of 69 through the air for 428 yards, five touchdowns and eight interceptions. His favorite target was senior Cameron Krumm who moved on through graduation after hauling in 20 passes 379 yards and five touchdowns. Brayden Monroe led Tri-County on the ground last year with 119 carries for 540 yards and eight touchdowns.

Kickoff is set for 7p.m. at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
