The Columbus Wildcat softball team finished their season against West Liberty in the second round of the district playoffs, losing 13-3 in five innings to cap off a 5-20 season.

Despite having just five wins this season, it is still an improvement from last year, and things can seemingly only go up from there.  This was a very young, inexperienced team without any senior leadership, and they’ll have three of them next year.

Offensively, the Wildcats were led by three players with a batting average of .300 or higher in Aubrey Duncan (.328), Emma Milder (.345) and Libby White (.386).  Duncan led the team in RBI with 14, and Milder led in runs scored (18) and stolen bases (13).

There is certainly room for improvement as far as pitching is concerned.  Finding the plate was an issue, as there was only one Wildcat pitcher that didn’t walk more batters than they struck out.  Despite finishing with a respectable .248 opposing batting average, the team ERA was 5.64, which was aided by 110 walks and eight hit batters.

The Wildcats will look to get back to winning fashion next season; a mark they have not met since 2015.
