Two candidates have officially filed for a school board seat in Mid-Prairie’s special election.

According to Mid-Prairie Business Manager Jeff Swartzentruber, Emily Uhl and Randy Billups are running for the board seat that was vacated by George Schaefer this June. Uhl was appointed by the board in July to serve in Schaefer’s seat until the results of the election are known. Billups is a former school board director who also showed interest in the seat when the board was looking to appoint a new director. The special election is being held as a result of a public petition filed with the school board secretary and the Washington County Auditor’s Office. The board director’s term commences at the first board meeting following the certification of the election results, and ends with the next regular election in November 2019. Polls will be open noon-8 p.m. Tuesday August 28 and also by absentee ballot.
