The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team swept away the competition Monday night en route to a tournament title at Keota to open the season.

The Hawks opened with a win over Keota 21-16 and 21-14, then followed that with a hard fought 21-13, 19-21 and 15-12 win over Highland to close out pool play before knocking off English Valleys 25-9 and 25-16 to take the title. After the tournament, Mid-Prairie head coach Cindy Miller talked about her team getting momentum during the night, and what she liked most about the way they played. “We really started off flat. We were a little nervous. Everything we have been practicing this season has been all about high energy, working together, I guess it just took a few matches before it came together. I think since they had to work so hard in that Highland match, I think we did transfer that momentum on. Everybody supported everybody. We were talking. When you can put it into motion on the court you can be nothing but proud of them.”

On the night the Golden Hawks were led by Myah Lugar with 17 kills. Caitlyn Riggan had 47 assists and Cassidy Hershberger led the Mid-Prairie defense with 32 digs. The Golden Hawks are now 3-0 on the year as they travel to Washington Thursday night for a rivalry match with the Demons.
