Iowa Mennonite Has Six Selected For All-Conference

The Iowa Mennonite School baseball team turned their strong performance on the diamond this year into six all-conference selections from the Southeast Iowa Superconference.

Iowa Mennonite senior Cole Ours was a first team All-SEISC infield selection. Ours hit .356 for the year, with 30 total hits, driving in 13 and stole 27 bases, second most in the conference.

IMS junior Blake Bontrager was a second team All-Conference selection at pitcher. He ended the year with a 4-4 record on the hill in 46 innings with a 3.50 ERA, striking out 35 batters. Opponents hit .242 against the IMS right hander. At the plate, Bontrager hit .282 with 20 total hits, 17 RBI and six runs scored.

Freshman Eli Ours was a second team All-Conference selection on the infield. Ours led IMS with a .362 average. His .567 on base percentage was fifth best in the league. He had 25 hits, scored 27 runs, walked 27 times, stole 16 bases and drove in 11.

Senior Isaiah Swantz was a second team All-Conference selection at catcher. Swantz hit .273 on the year with an on base percentage of .415. He drove in 14, scored eight times and had 18 total hits on the season. Behind the plate he was second in the conference, throwing out eight base runners.

Iowa Mennonite had a pair of honorable mention selections with Trevor Leyden and Reggie Borntrager. Leyden ended the year hitting .247 with 18 total hits, 16 runs scored and 18 runs driven in. On the mound Leyden had a 4-2 record in 23 innings with a 3.60 ERA, striking out 26 hitters. Borntrager hit .219 with an on base percentage of .435. He drove in 24 on 14 total hits, smacked three home runs, and scored 24 times. On the mound he had a 1-1 record as the teams closer, working 17 innings with a 3.63 ERA and striking out 17.

IMS had a 16-10 overall record this season.
