As families are still registering for school this week, the Highland School District might be looking at better enrollment figures this year.

Superintendent Ken Crawford shares what was mentioned at the school board’s recent meeting, “Elementary Principal Jane O’Leary was talking about are numbers are up about 13 kids, preliminarily speaking right now on what we have for kids there and I think that’s a huge positive.”

Last fall Highland saw an enrollment decrease of 26 students which caused the district to look at budget reduction strategies for their general fund. Certified enrollment numbers for the district won’t come until later this fall as the enrollment count is due to the Iowa Department of Education no later than October 15th. Classes for Highland begin this Thursday.
