Washington County is looking to enhance the safety of their workers and those on the road in construction zones as they apply for a grant.

At Tuesday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting, Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius proposed to the board an application for a $60,000 Transportation Safety Project Grant. This grant would pay for new temporary stop lights that can be used in construction zones. This is a joint application between Washington, Keokuk and Henry counties. The county would find out if they were awarded funds in December and the money would become available for use in July. Right now the county rents the temporary structures from the DOT. The Supervisors approved Thorius’ pursuit of the grant money.
