The start of the school year is just a few weeks away, but there are still opportunities for kids in the Mid-Prairie School District to get a free lunch.

The Kalona Food for All and Wellman Summer Lunch programs both serve free lunch Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at the Kalona Methodist Church, and Wellman Skating Rink, respectively. All are welcome to attend and make their own lunch. They can also make and take home a sack lunch for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There are also opportunities to volunteer as Kalona Food for All Organizer Amy Spencer mentions, “We are really really thankful for the generosity of the community we have a lot of good volunteers, but what tends to happen this time of year, about middle of July, everybody goes on vacation. So we’re always looking for more volunteers, and when I mean we I mean Erin Ramer who does the Wellman lunch and me who does the Kalona lunch.”

Anyone interested in volunteering for the Kalona or Wellman summer lunch programs or wish to donate can visit foodforallmp.org. Both programs are serving lunch through August 17th.
