The Washington High School marching band is busy preparing this week for the fall season with their annual camp.

The band has increased their number with 105 students performing this year, as this year’s show is called “The Witch and the Saint.” This is the first year a student has arranged the show’s music, which is based on a piece the concert band performed last spring. Head drum major Meghan Newman arranged the show with the help of student John Flannery, who originally composed the drum feature.

Newman, who is entering her senior year, shares what she enjoys most about band camp, “So I was the junior drum major last year, so this is my second year and definitely one of my favorite parts of band camp is getting to teach people. I really loved marching band like that was probably my favorite part of anything my eighth grade and freshman year when I participated. I just loved it so much so I really loved teaching people like how much I’ve enjoyed it and getting to see them enjoy it that much as well.”

The Demon Marching Band will first perform “The Witch and the Saint” at the first varsity home football game on August 24th and their first competition is on September 15th.
