The Washington Demon football team picked up their first win of the season in front of a home crowd last night, beating Iowa City Liberty 35-19.

It was all Washington from the start, with the Demons going into the halftime break with a 27-0 lead.  The defense forced three turnovers, and the offense was firing on all cylinders.  The Demons may have gotten a little complacent in the second half, per head coach James Harris, and allowed 19 points to score in the final two quarters, but it wasn’t nearly enough to take the win away from them.

Luke Turner was stunning across the board Friday night, somehow accounting for all 35 of the Demons’ points.  He went 13 for 18 through the air with 210 yards and four touchdown passes, and also broke a 36-yard run for the first score of the game.  The receiving corps was balanced numbers-wise, with Cade Hennigan, Chase McDole and Ethan Hunt all hauling at least one touchdown catch (two for Hennigan), including an 81-yarder for Hunt.

It’s homecoming this coming week, with the Comets of West Liberty coming to town.  Catch all of that action live from Case Field at 7:00 starting with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show, with kickoff to follow at 7:30.
