The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team is back home Friday when they welcome the Williamsburg Raiders to Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman.

The Golden Hawks come into play at 1-4 on the year, after scoring a victory in their district opener last week 56-21 over Central Lee in Donnellson. Six different Golden Hawks found the end zone in that game, led by Justin Schwartz, our KCII JET Physical Therapy Athlete of the Week, with 194 total yards and two touchdowns on 26 touches.

On the year, Brad Tornow leads the Golden Hawks through the air at 28 of 86 for 383 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. His favorite target is Justin Schwartz with 121 yards on 14 catches for a score. Schwartz also leads the Golden Hawk ground game with 450 yards on 99 carries and four touchdowns. Grant Boyse leads the Mid-Prairie defense with 33 tackles.

Williamsburg comes into the night with a 2-3 overall record. The Raiders started the year ranked No. 1 in the state in class 2A after a trip to the UNI-Dome last season. They fell on hard times early, dropping their first three games before rebounding with wins over Iowa City Regina and last week 50-7 at Davis County. In their win over the Mustangs, the Raiders were led by Gage Hazen-Fabor with 179 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. For the year, the Raider offense is led by Jordan Martin at 48 of 88 for 790 yards, four touchdowns and three interceptions. His favorite target is Kaden Wetjen with 17 catches for 330 yards and a touchdown. Hazen-Fabor leads the Raider ground game with 896 yards on 131 carries and nine touchdowns. Mid-Prairie head football coach Pete Cavanagh spoke this week about their play against Central Lee, getting their first win of the year, and the challenge in Williamsburg. “I thought our offensive line played really well against Central Lee. We were able to get to the edge. When you get the running game going like we’re accustomed to, it feels good. Good to get that first win of the year. It’s some momentum for Williamsburg. We’re finally at home. Obviously they’re a good team. We understand that. It’s good for our confidence. It’s good to see our kids smiling again, they work hard and deserved this win.”

These two teams met a year ago with the Raiders taking a 49-13 win. You can hear all of the action live tonight on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com from Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman, beginning with the KCII Football Friday Preview show at 6p.m., Washington HyVee pregame show at 7p.m. and kickoff at 7:30.
