After a 2-7 campaign a year ago, the Highland Husky football team is defying the odds this season, already surpassing last year’s win total by beating Lynnville-Sully at home last night 25-22.

L-S was ranked going into their game against Sigourney-Keota last week, but a 44-18 beating took them out of the rankings.  Highland, meanwhile, went into sixth-ranked Alburnett and stole a victory, which earned them some votes to show up in the top ten for week three.

After last week, the two teams were on different sides of the spectrum; Highland was on cloud nine, and the Hawks were hungry for a win.  They got a good chunk of the meal in, leading the Huskies 22-8 at one point. But Highland took away the last course with a fantastic comeback, which was capped off by a 42-yard field goal from Brody Burton with six seconds left in the game to take the game 25-22.  Talk about your just deserts.

Highland’s next game comes on the road this Friday against Lisbon, a team still looking for their first victory of the year.  Kickoff from Lisbon is set for 7:00.
