The Mid-Prairie School Board approved transferring funds to their flexibility account at their recent meeting.

A resolution was brought to the board after a public hearing was held on August 27th when no public comments were made. The resolution was to transfer $32,035 from the Home School Assistance Program and $1,648.82 from Teacher Quality Professional Development.

Superintendent Mark Schneider explained the flexibility account, “School funding is categorical, a lot of it is categorical, you only get funds for certain things, you can only spend money for certain things. This allows the district a little bit more flexibility in doing this, and this was created during the 2017 Iowa Legislature when we were able to do this.”

The board unanimously approved transferring the total of $33,683.82 of excess unspent funds to the flexibility spending account, which has the same limitations as a general fund.
