A severe thunderstorm impacted Washington County Tuesday.

The severe thunderstorm warning was issued by the National Weather Service at 11:45 a.m. and ended at 12:25 p.m. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen advised people to seek shelter as strong winds were reported in the area. Kalona City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh told KCII News that there was tree damage in the city of Kalona and power lines were down. He added that power was out in the city during the storm. According to Alliant Energy 2,538 customers in Washington County were without power at 12:15 p.m. Seven members of the KCII Severe Weather Action Team brought you live coverage of the storm, and had the power gone off KCII would still be live with our emergency back-up generators.
