A Romanian man has been identified as the suspect in last week’s robbery at US Bank in Mount Pleasant.

According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department 19-year-old Ionel Niculescu has been identified as the male subject that robbed the US Bank at 301 East Washington Street September 14th. Niculescu had fled the scene possibly in a white Dodge Ram truck with an undisclosed amount of money. He is currently wanted out of Canada and another country and is part of a traveling Romanian band that targets coin shops, banks, jewelry stores, and large department stores. Niculescu is being investigated by numerous agencies at this time. He has been charged by Mount Pleasant Police with second degree theft and a warrant will be issued for his arrest. The Mount Pleasant Police Department was assisted by agencies and businesses including the All American Coins and Bullion in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Day School, Jeweler’s Security Alliance, Iowa Department of Criminal Investigations, York Regional Police (UK), United States Custom and Border Patrol, and numerous civilians.
