Recent precipitation has delayed construction on the Kewash Nature Trail for their Kirkwood Regional Center spur project but crews are getting ready to get equipment on site this week.

Barricade equipment has been placed near the trail entrance on Highway 1 with the closure anticipated to begin by the end of this week. Delong Construction will be creating a spur connecting the existing trail with the Kirkwood Washington Regional Center and paving a portion of the current trail west of Highway 1. Washington County Conservation Executive Director Steve Anderson explains the need for the closure, “The idea, of course, is that we’re closing it because there’s going to be big machines on site and we need it to be safe, plus we need those people to work without interruption. So once those barricades get in place we truly hope everyone will respect that and stay out of here while we get this done.”

This project has been funded by grants from the Transportation Alternatives Program, Resource Enhancement and Protection program, Washington County Conservation Board, the City of Washington, and the Kirkwood Regional Center. The project is expected to be completed by December 31st.
