The Department of Criminal Investigation is warning members of the public of a phone scam.

The scammers are claiming to be members of the Iowa State Police and call claiming to have seized a car filled with drugs that’s registered in the citizen’s name. They then try to scare the citizen into giving money or access to personal information. The DCI advises that if anybody calls stating they’re collecting money on behalf of the DCI in any way, hang up. Do not confirm or give out any personal information over the phone. If you feel you’ve been contacted in a similar way the DCI encourages you to contact your local law enforcement and Iowa Attorney General’s Office Hotline at (515) 281-5926 or (888) 777-4590.
