Extension to Celebrate a Century in Washington County

A century of helping Washington County with access to education and research will be celebrated Thursday with the 100th anniversary of Washington County Extension.

Nancy Adrian, Washington County Extension director, says, “A hundred years ago the people of Washington County joined the extension movement and hired their first local extension agent. Today ISU Extension and Outreach serves as a 99 county campus, connecting the needs of Iowans with Iowa State University research and resources.” Statewide, more than one million people directly benefit from ISU Extension and Outreach educational programs each year, in addition extension education online reaches more than four million.

The Washington County Extension celebration will be held in conjunction with the Farmer’s Market in Central Park at 5 p.m. A ribbon will be cut and Cy from Iowa State University will be in attendance to help sing Happy Birthday.
