Lions, Wolves Square Off in KCII-Area Battle

Coming off a win and loss, respectively, The Lone Tree and Winfield-Mt. Union football teams will take to the field tomorrow night to face off for the first time since 2015.

The last time these two teams met was back when both teams played 11-man football, with the Wolves coming out on top in Winfield 30-20.  Since then, both teams have joined the eight-man ranks, and have been looking to make a name for themselves in a tough pool of competition throughout Southeast Iowa.

Friday will bring a battle of dual-threat quarterbacks in WMU’s Daunte Oepping and Lone Tree’s Harmon Miller.  Miller has thrown just five fewer passes than Oepping this season; but Miller has completed 11 more and racked up 357 more passing yards.  The ground battle between the two of them is about as narrow as it gets, with Oepping averaging 3.1 yards per carry compared to Miller’s 3.0.

Kickoff in Winfield is set for 7:00.
