Since Iowa adopted its merit system for selecting judges in 1962, the Iowa State Bar Association has conducted the Judicial Performance Review to give voters information on judges up for retention in that election year. According to this year’s review the 64 judges and three court of appeals judges standing for retention in this year’s midterm elections are qualified to remain as judges. Local judges who received reviews include District 6 judges Andrew B. Chappell of Iowa City, Paul D. Miller of Iowa City, Mitchell E. Turner of Cedar Rapids, Deborah Farmer Minot of Iowa City and Nicholas L. Scott of Cedar Rapids. District 6 serves Iowa and Johnson Counties.

District 8A Judges include Crystal Cronk of Sigourney, Lucy J. Gamon of Ottumwa, Myron Gookin of Fairfield, Shawn Showers of Washington, and Daniel Kitchen of Washington. Those judges serve Appanoose, Davis, Jefferson, Keokuk, Mahaska, Monroe, Powesheik, Van Buren, Wapello and Washington Counties.

District 8B Judges include Mark Kruse of Burlington, John Wright of Fort Madison and Ty Rogers of Burlington. They serve Des Moines, Henry, Lee and Louisa Counties.
