While weather hindered harvest activities last week, southeast Iowa still leads the state in corn and soybeans harvested so far this season.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture 41% of corn for grain has been harvested in southeast Iowa, ahead of the state’s total of 17%. The moisture content of field corn being harvested was at 20%.

Southeast Iowa also has 30% of soybeans harvested while the overall rate for the state is 19%. The soybean harvest is behind the five-year average of 51%, and the 19% mark is the smallest percentage of the crop harvested by October 14th since records began.
