Eight candidates running for office in the upcoming elections took part in a forum Tuesday night in Washington.

As heard live on KCII, the event started with the two candidates running for Washington County Board of Supervisors District 3 – Abe Miller and Jeff Thomann. After a brief introduction, the two discussed their views on how the budget is being managed, and gave their five-year plans for Washington County. The rest of the night was turned over to six statehouse candidates including House District 78 incumbent Jarad Klein and Democratic challenger Kim Davis, House District 84 candidates Joe Mitchell and Jason Moats, and Senate District 39 incumbent Kevin Kinney and Republican challenger Heather Hora. One of the issues discussed was privatized healthcare. Joe Mitchell, the Republican candidate for House District 84 said, “I know firsthand that this isn’t the most perfect system, but I know if we put more government oversight with the legislators that we can get it smoothed out.” His opponent Jason Moats, the Democratic candidate for District House 84 said, “Iowa needs to understand they can’t make money off of everything, and I think it’s in very poor taste that we are trying to make money off of the elderly and the disabled.” Other topics of discussion included immigration, tax cuts, and transportation.
