Turn Around, Don’t Drown – Flooding Continues

Flood warnings continue across the KCII listening area and motorists are reminded to not cross flood roadways – turn around, don’t drown. The English River at Kalona is flooding and is expected to fall below flood stage Sunday. Road closures near Kalona include Kiwi Avenue North of Highway 22, 130th Street west of Highway 1, Orange Avenue, Nutmeg at Poplar, and Nutmeg at 133rd Street. Near Riverside, closures include Willow Avenue and 130th Street. The Iowa River has breached its banks in multiple areas. At Lone Tree major flooding is occurring. The Iowa River at Columbus Junction is more than five feet above flood stage and is expected to crest Friday. Flood stage at Wapello is 20 feet and as of Wednesday water reached 26.7 feet with major flooding occurring with a warning in effect until further notice. At Oakville the flood warning is in effect until further notice and water is expected to rise to 17.3 feet. At 15.2 feet, water affects the south approach to the Iowa Highway 99 bridge near Oakville.

Flood warnings are also in effect for the Cedar River at Conesville and the North Skunk River near Sigourney.
