Goals for the school year and a board president were discussed at the recent Washington School Board meeting. Eric Turner was again elected to serve as board president. And Heidi Vittetoe was again elected to be the vice president of the school board.

Superintendent goals were also discussed and Superintendent Willie Stone says two of the three closely align with the board’s goals, he explains the one that varies, “Try to research what the district’s done in the past to create a continuous improvement cycle and then try to get that down in writing so everyone knows what it is and knows how to be part of it. Because I do believe, we need to get to the point where anyone can say, ‘Hey’ and give suggestions and those suggestions can be be taken to a place where they can either work or they can’t work. And I think, if we are as a district we’re continually trying to grow we’ll be a place where people want to be at, and where people want to send their kids to. And we just want to do the best for all of our students.” The other two goals include creating a five-year facilities plan that includes things like roof replacements and additions to buildings. The final goal is to have each of the school buildings report to the board on where students are academically for reading, math and science.
