When going outside for holiday festivities, remember to dress accordingly. Washington County Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen recommends wearing layers, “Multiple layers as opposed to one big heavy coat are much more effective at keeping you warm when you’re outside. And mittens, gloves, scarves, hats – be the abominable snowman all bundled up, just like you do with your kids. You do that with your kids because it’s a good idea, so do it for yourself, as well.” She adds if you do go outside to do yard work or shovel snow, be sure to take breaks and if you start sweating that’s a good indication that you need a break. She says once layers get wet they’re not useful in keeping you warm. Temperatures are forecast to have highs in the upper 40s and lows around freezing later this week.
