The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team will hit the mat for the first time on the new year Tuesday when they travel to English Valleys.

The Golden Hawks will see the Bears, Wapello, and Eddyville-Blakesburg at the quadrangular meet. Mid-Prairie is coming off of a 14-13 overall season, good enough to set the school dual win record for a single year. However, the Golden Hawks did not have anyone advance through the sectional round of postseason action for the first time in eight seasons. This week, Mid-Prairie wrestlers Dallas Miller, Isaac Boucher and David Murray talked about some of the team’s goals for the year. Murray said “Our goal is to beat the dual win record and for me, advance through the sectional tournament. ” Boucher added, “we need to keep up the good work, break the team dual record and I need to make state.” Miller said, “I am hoping to win 15, maybe 20 individual matches. I want to help out in the room showing technique to the younger wrestlers and break our team dual record.”

At this event a year ago, the Hawks beat English Valleys 48-33 and topped Wapello 42-39 before falling to Eddyville-Blakesburg 57-23. Action begins on the mat tonight at 6p.m. in North English.
