The Highland football team ended their season last night, losing in the state quarterfinals to top-ranked, unbeaten Hudson by a 41-14 score.

Highland was the stronger team early in the game, with Trey Lasek taking it 71 yards to the house on his very first run of the game to give the Huskies an early 7-0 lead.  Hudson would score 14 unanswered, but the Huskies would respond with another Trey Lasek TD, this time for 24 yards.  The Huskies had a prime chance to take a touchdown lead going into halftime, but Lasek was picked off at the goal line, and the score was knotted up at the break, 14-14.

Highland came out and played their same stout defense to start things off in the second half, holding Hudson to a three-and-out on their first possession.  But the very next Highland drive, the Pirates forced a fumble and recovered it, and the game was never the same after that.  The Pirates would run and run and run, and nobody could stop Christian Seres.  They scored four unanswered touchdowns before it was all said and done, securing the victory.

With the loss, Highland ends their season at 8-3, just one year after finishing at 2-7.  The Huskies say goodbye to a great group of seniors which includes Trey Lasek, Brady Hahn, Jordan Sosa, Dan and Brody Burton, Cory Stewart, among others, and will hope to build on this season’s success with a new group a year from now.
