Winfield-Mt. Union’s Brandon Snowden had never played a single down of football before this season. After leading WMU in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes last track season, the folks on the fall sports side of things were wondering what he could bring to the football field. What they got was astounding. In his senior year, Snowden finally joined up, after a little pestering, to serve primarily as a kick returner. They took a gamble on his football inexperience and it paid off in spades; at the end of the season, Snowden took a return to the house four different times, which tied for the state lead across all classes, and was third in the state in total return yards with 648.  Head coach Scott McCarty says Snowden’s kick returns let his team avoid a lot of potential jams.

“There were a couple games where we struggled pretty hard offensively.  Without Brandon’s electric ability to return kicks, we probably wouldn’t have put up any points,” McCarty said.
