A $135,000 grant was awarded to the Friends of Lake Darling State Park by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to add to their ADA fishing trail.

With this project, there will be a paved path from the current fishing trail to the new pedestrian bridge. With the trail being ADA friendly people of all abilities will be able to enjoy the fishing trail and the pedestrian bridge without switching paths. The trail will cover nearly 4,000 feet and will reach the edge of the park.
Friends of Lake Darling board member Dr. Fay Vittetoe has seen nothing but growth in recent years, “It has become a premier park, this year Lake Darling has had more visitors than ever. This is over an $8.5 million per year economic asset to Washington County and the area. Before we started the renovations and restoration, it was a $1-2 million asset.” Lake Darling was also given a $343,500 grant by the WCRF for the new lodge in 2006.
