Three Mid-Prairie student-athletes will be competing in the Special Olympics State Bowling Tournament this weekend.

Jonathan Miller, Erin Harmston, and Stephanie Jimenez will head to Cedar Rapids on Saturday to put their bowling skills to the test. Thirteen students participated in the qualifying tournament in October. Mid-Prairie Special Education Teacher Traci Zahradnek said they have been practicing once a week since the beginning of the school year. Zahradnek added that events like this have an incredible impact on the students, “It was really cool to see them shine in their element, and nice to see them to have a day all about themselves just like their peers would have in school and when they’re participating in athletic events.” This was the first Special Olympics event the Golden Hawks have participated in and they will also be competing in track and field in the spring.
