The Washington County Conservation Department is hosting their first Opt Outside Hike this Friday.

Naturalist Pam Holz, who is organizing the event, says this is an alternative to the stress that Black Friday can bring. Holz adds that something as simple as getting outside for a hike like this can have an impact as we get into winter, “At this time of year we don’t often get out, and they’ve done more and more studies showing how beneficial and how necessary it is for us to spend some time outside. That’s not just physical health, it helps our brain, it helps with depression, which is a big thing starting at this time of year. A lot of people get seasonal affective disorder. It’s just a way for people to enjoy it and be healthy at the same time.” The hike path will be determined at the time of the hike to accommodate as many people as possible. It will take place Friday at 1 p.m. at Marr Park
