A hearing was held to determine what steps to take next in the Clarence Dean Pedersen case regarding his charge of murder.

After a psychological evaluation, Clarence Dean Pedersen was deemed incompetent to stand trial. In July Pedersen was charged with first degree murder of his room-mate Edward Jones. Friday the state filed a motion to have Pedersen sent to Iowa Medical and Classification Center to undergo treatment to try to restore his competency. Judge Crystal Cronk will now decide if that is the correct course of action; there is no time set for the judge’s decision. Pedersen was also found incompetent to stand trial in 1981 when he was charged with first degree murder in the death of his brother-in-law.
