Judge Crystal Cronk has signed off on an order to send Clarence Dean Pedersen to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Coralville for restoration treatment. Pedersen was charged with first degree murder in connection to the death of Edward Jones in July in Washington. A hearing was held on Friday in regards to a competency report filed on October 11th. The author of the report, Dr. Arthur Konar stated that Pedersen is not competent to stand trial, which means he lacks the ability to appreciate the charges, understand the proceedings, and effectively assist in his defense. Reports on Pedersen’s progress will be sent to the court every 30 days. After the restoration treatment is deemed complete, he will be re-evaluated for competency to stand trial.
