The Columbus football team had six players named, in one form or another, to the all-district team for Class 1A district five.

The Wildcats had just two seniors on the roster this season, both of which were named to the first team.  Jose Cerezo and Chance Colby each played both sides of the football, but they were both named as defenders. Colby and Cerezo finished first and second in the conference in total tackles, respectively, and they both finished top 15 in class 1A in that mark as well.  Colby also finished with the second-highest sack total in the district with six, and Cerezo led the district in tackles for loss with 15.5.

There were two second-teamers as well for Columbus, junior Jorge Miranda and sophomore Will Schwab.  Miranda was named primarily for his work on the offensive line, but he put up some good defensive numbers as well with 38 total tackles, including two for loss and a sack. Schwab was the team’s leading wideout for the year, and he even ended up tying for third in the district in touchdown catches with three.

Just behind Schwab in scoring grabs was fellow sophomore Tucker Bright, who was one of two Wildcat honorable mentions.  He hauled in five catches, two of which went for touchdowns, at 20.2 yards per reception.  The other honorable mention was another Miranda, Bryan, just a freshman.  Bryan tied with Jorge in total tackles with 38, but one-upped him in tackles for loss with three.

Cerezo and Colby are the only two seniors on this year’s Columbus football roster.  With freshmen and sophomores outnumbering upperclassmen 19-8, the Wildcats will return plenty of talent next season.
