Tubas, keyboards, a french horn and a marimba will be coming to the Washington School District’s high school and middle school bands. The Washington Music Boosters received a $36,208 grant for instrument replacement from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.

High school band director Don Hughes shared what it felt like to hear the grant be presented, “It’s very exciting. It’s for equipment that we’ve needed for a while. We still have more, so we’re planning on coming back but we’ll see what we can get. We’re going to take care of some big ticket items.” Hughes adds how these additions and upgrades will benefit the music program, “The marimba is going to help the high school. We’ve used most of our keyboards that we’ve had for many, many years. And they’ve gone inside and outside and we’re looking forward to having state of the art equipment to keep indoors. So the other one can be our outdoor marimba and that’ll be okay. Especially when we host All-State [auditions], it’s nice to have that equipment. I know that with the tubas one of them is coming to the high school, two of them are going to the middle school. It’s just, it’s going to help the program immensely.”

This grant was one of 41 presented by the Washington County Riverboat Foundation at their fall grant ceremony.
